"Magic Words"
From the Ancient Oral Tradition of the Inuit
Translator Edward Field, Illustrator Mike Blanc
I received a free ARC of this book, and I loved the short, yet lyrical, text interspersed among the rich illustrations. The language definitely reminds me that the content has been translated from various Inuit stories, but--except for the ending being rather abrupt--I love the way the words and pictures flow together. I shared this book with my Head Start class and my Director during our unit on multiculturalism and they all loved the book! I used the book as part of a dialogical reading activity with my four- and five-year olds, where I asked them questions throughout the reading and they interacted with the words and pictures they saw and heard. This went over extremely well. I recommend this book to others Pre-K through fourth grade who enjoy this type of activity.
